I'm an intercultural communication trainer, a Dutch language instructor for expats, and a passionate singer-songwriter. One of my dreams is to grace the stage at the renowned North Sea Jazz Festival. My journey began with my studies in Language and Culture Studies at Utrecht University, where I later delved into research on teaching in multicultural groups. Following my academic pursuits, I ventured into roles as an educational advisor and researcher. Eventually, I transitioned into becoming a Dutch language trainer, culminating in the founding of 'Let's Speak Dutch' in 2018. My personal background, influenced by my father's experiences as an immigrant from Indonesia, has given me a unique perspective on the challenges of adapting to a new country and culture. It's a journey I've seen up close, and it has deeply informed my work. In 2002 she finished her PhD on education in multicultural groups. After this period of research, she worked as an educational advisor, and later as a teacher at the Hogeschool Utrecht, where she specialized in Dutch as a second language (NT2). In 2009 she started teaching NT2 to expats, in groups and privately. Mylène finds it important to tune in on the learning style of each learner, because every language learner is different. Besides her teaching activities, she is a professional singer in her very own jazz band WhoSheDo. She prepares her lessons carefully and makes sure they are far from boring. She enjoys working with people from all around the world, and just like they learn from her, she learns a lot from them.
